97:1
יְהוָה מָלָךְ תָּגֵל הָאָרֶץ יִשְׂמְחוּ אִיִּים רַבִּים׃
The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad.

97:2
עָנָן וַעֲרָפֶל סְבִיבָיו צֶדֶק וּמִשְׁפָּט מְכוֹן כִּסְאוֹ׃
Clouds and darkness are round about Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
97:3
אֵשׁ לְפָנָיו תֵּלֵךְ וּתְלַהֵט סָבִיב צָרָיו׃
A fire goeth before Him, And burneth up His adversaries round about.

הֵאִירוּ בְרָקָיו תֵּבֵל רָאֲתָה וַתָּחֵל הָאָרֶץ׃
His lightnings lighted up the world; The earth saw, and trembled.

הָרִים כַּדּוֹנַג נָמַסּוּ מִלִּפְנֵי יְהוָה מִלִּפְנֵי אֲדוֹן כָּל־הָאָרֶץ׃
The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

הִגִּידוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם צִדְקוֹ וְרָאוּ כָל־הָעַמִּים כְּבוֹדוֹ׃
The heavens declared His righteousness, And all the peoples saw His glory.
97:7
יֵבֹשׁוּ כָּל־עֹבְדֵי פֶסֶל הַמִּתְהַלְלִים בָּאֱלִילִים הִשְׁתַּחֲווּ־לוֹ כָּל־אֱלֹהִים׃
Ashamed be all they that serve graven images, That boast themselves of things of nought; Bow down to Him, all ye gods.

שָׁמְעָה וַתִּשְׂמַח צִיּוֹן וַתָּגֵלְנָה בְּנוֹת יְהוּדָה לְמַעַן מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ יְהוָה׃
Zion heard and was glad, And the daughters of Judah rejoiced; Because of Thy judgments, O LORD.

כִּי־אַתָּה יְהוָה עֶלְיוֹן עַל־כָּל־הָאָרֶץ מְאֹד נַעֲלֵיתָ עַל־כָּל־אֱלֹהִים׃
For Thou, LORD, art most high above all the earth; Thou art exalted far above all gods.
97:10
אֹהֲבֵי יְהוָה שִׂנְאוּ רָע שֹׁמֵר נַפְשׁוֹת חֲסִידָיו מִיַּד רְשָׁעִים יַצִּילֵם׃
O ye that love the LORD, hate evil; He preserveth the souls of His saints; He delivered them out of the hand of the wicked.
97:11
אוֹר זָרֻעַ לַצַּדִּיק וּלְיִשְׁרֵי־לֵב שִׂמְחָה׃
Light is sown for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart.

שִׂמְחוּ צַדִּיקִים בַּיהוָה וְהוֹדוּ לְזֵכֶר קָדְשׁוֹ׃
Be glad in the LORD, ye righteous; And give thanks to His holy name.

Storm imagery for kingship

Another enthronement psalm, describing clouds, fire, and lightning accompanying God's reign. Why does this kind of storm imagery keep showing up specifically when the Psalter wants to emphasize divine kingship rather than, say, gentler pastoral image...
